English 12 is a two semester course covering the language arts skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language. World literature and informational text is the primary literary focus. Emphasis is on acquiring the necessary skills essential for college and career readiness. Students who earn a B or higher in the course will be able to bypass English 008 and 009 and go directly into English 110 (transferable course) at Imperial Valley College.
ERWC (Expository Reading and Writing Course) is a two semester course covering the language arts skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language. ERWC emphasizes skills needed to succeed in college, mainly close, critical reading and expository writing. Compared to other English classes, less fiction is read; students will read and reread current issue articles, will analyze them rhetorically, and will express their views on the issue, supporting their ideas with research and personal experience. Students who earn a C or better in the course will be able to bypass English placement tests for most CSU and California community colleges.
